In 1991 after emigrating and settling in Perth, WA, Philip J Boyce opened a small stained-glass art studio registering Boyce Western Glass and running from his home in Maida Vale. The studio allowed him to return to his original family roots in the world of authentic traditional stained-glass lead and zinc lights undertaking specialised restoration work alongside completing new commission projects.
His clients ranged from church organisations and heritage listed buildings to residential restorations and new commission work.
In 1992, his son Philip R Boyce emigrated to Perth and once settled joined his father in 1993 to help with the increasing work load of restoration projects. Bringing with him a wealth of experience in the fields of general and double-glazed sealed units as well as the emerging art of simulated overlay stained glass, the business grew further into offering these services.
As the general glazing increased, Stained Glass Sensations was born as a means of both promoting and maintaining the integrity the traditional and simulated stained glass side of the business but also now incorporating the Simulated Overly System. Sourcing authentic European and American stained-glass materials and glass from around the world …………………..
In 2004, it became obvious that the business had expanded beyond the boundaries of the small Stained-Glass Studio in Maida Vale. The Boyce family brought some land and commissioned an architect to design a purpose-built factory unit capable of housing both the traditional stained-glass side of the business as well as the general glazing side with room to grow.
A major consideration was also the ability to source materials direct from Europe, United Kingdom, America and Asia so a 5 tonne Gantry Crane capable of being used for both handling glass in the factory as well as unloading shipping containers from overseas was incorporated into the building design.
In 2006, the companies moved into a purpose-built factory unit in High Wycombe where they still operate today. Conveniently located on the Abernethy Road intersection it allows easy access to all main roads to enable us to service down to Fremantle, up to Joondalup and across to Toodyay.
The extra space allowed us to expand into general glass, glazing, cut size and processed glass. We were also able to extend the range and amount of stock we hold providing customers with more choice and the confidence that they will get all their glass and art glass supplies in the one place.
Our showroom boasts purpose built hobby square glass racks with each glass having its individual sample backlit with daylight globes to show off the beauty and depth of colour and texture if each individual glass piece. Customers are able to browse at leisure matching and choosing the right glass for their projects. Larger stock sheets are also available for those customers with larger projects.
Two full sized display units with over 30 simulated overly designs are also in the showroom for customers browse ideas for designs for completing their own projects. All hand tools, grinders, glass beveled and the Regalead simulated overlay system are on display in lit booths.
In 2008 two well-known local hills glass companies, Kalamunda Glass and Windscreen on Wheels were acquired by Philip R Boyce and his wife Hazel Boyce, which allowed further expansion into the fields of domestic, general glazing along with vehicles windscreen and body glass replacements. The two were relocated from their premises in Walliston to our modern factory in High Wycombe,
Hazel Boyce joined her husband Philip R Boyce to assist in jointly managing the day to day running of the businesses.
With his wealth of 40 plus years experience and fourth generation in the glass industry, Philip is hands on having Certificate III in Glass and Glazing and also holds Windscreen Fitters licence.
Hazel looks after the sale office and accounts having qualifications in both book keeping and accounting.
